  1. Dan Willett says:

Who is the servant in Isaiah 53? Does Isaiah tell us? Yes he does: “And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Yisrael, in whom I will be glorified.” Isaiah 49:3

No big secret. And yet a lot of people like to pretend that Isaiah didn’t tell us who the servant was. Why? Because the truth doesn’t fit their pre-conceived notions…

I’m not clear, are you actually suggesting that God only has 1 servant and that is Israel? Or are you suggesting that every instance of the word ‘servant’ must only apply to Israel? That’s just not possible if you read on a few more verses to Isaiah 49:5 which says “And now the Lord says – he who formed me in the womb to be his servant to bring Jacob back to him and gather Israel to himself.” If as you suggest, Israel is the ‘servant’ being formed in the womb, then how can Israel gather Israel ? This is illogical and confusing. God is not a God of confusion. This passage is speaking of the Messiah (Moshiach), a real person who is formed in the womb of his mother, who will gather God’s chosen people (Israel) back to himself. Now what was that you were saying about “pre-conceived notions” ? Thank you for sharing. Shalom.
